Sidewalk Snow Removal Policy

Residential Sidewalks

In accordance with City Code, Section 91.01, the owner or occupant of any property adjacent to a public sidewalk shall use diligence to keep the walk safe for pedestrians. No owner or occupant shall allow snow, ice, dirt, or rubbish to remain on the walk longer than 48 hours after its deposit thereon, or after the snow has ceased to fall. Failure to comply with this section will constitute a violation and the City will remove the snow, ice, dirt or rubbish and you will be billed for the services incurred. If the charges for the services are not paid, the remaining balance shall be certified to the Pennington County Auditor and shall be entered as a special assessment against this property to be collected as part of the real estate taxes, as per Minnesota State Statute & City Code. 

Central Business District

In accordance with City Code, Section 91.01, the owner or occupant of any property adjacent to a public sidewalk shall use diligence to keep the walk safe for pedestrians. No owner or occupant shall allow snow, ice, dirt, or rubbish to remain on the walk longer than 24 hours in the central busiess district. The business district is defined for this purpose as the area bordered by Fourth Street on the north, Knight Avenue on the west, First Street on the south, and the Canadian Pacific Railroad on the east).

The City Administrator or other designated person shall keep record showing the cost of removal adjacent to each separate lot and parcel. Ordinance No. t 17, 3'd Series t t/27/2018
 

PLACING SNOW OR ICE IN PUBLIC STREET OR ON OTHER CITY PROPERTY

It is a misdemeanor for any person, not acting under a specific contract with the City, to remove snow from private property or alleys and place the same on a public street. It is also a misdemeanor for any person not acting under a contract with the City to dump snow on City property. - See also MN State Statute 160.2715 -
