Pennington County has a number of resources available for persons looking to start or expand a business.

Advance Thief River: an economic development initiative, led by Jobs, Inc., in partnership with the City of Thief River Falls and Pennington County, focusing on business recruitment, business retention and expansion, encouraging business startups, and increasing the pool of workforce talent in the area.

Chamber of Commerce: provides support to businesses by promoting a business climate that enhances economic vitality and improves the quality of life for all citizens.

City of Thief River Falls: provides business resources and incentives as well as building permitting and community development services.

Northwest Regional Development Commission: provides general planning guidance and technical assistance for specific industrial projects.

Department of Employment and Economic Development: provides funding and technical assistance to businesses and communities including community improvement grants, business loans, international marketing and state promotion.

University of MN Crookston Economic Development Administration Center and Northwest MN Small Business Development Center:

  • Conduct research & provide analysis and technical assistance
  • Facilitate educational & entrepreneurial conversations
  • Marketing & Management strategies, business plans, assistance with accounting software, marketing research, competitive analysis, social media marketing and other projects identified by the client
