NOTICE The newly adopted 2006 INTERNATIONAL PROPERTY MAINTENANCE CODEŽ requires premises identification numbers. 304.3 Premises identification. Buildings shall have approved address numbers placed in a position to be plainly legible and visible from the street or road fronting the property. These numbers shall contrast with their background. Address numbers shall be Arabic numerals or alphabet letters. Numbers shall be a minimum of 4 inches (102 mm) high with a minimum stroke width of 0.5 inch (12.7 mm).
Building Official Comments: Buildings that have been assigned a street number must have the number visibly displayed in Arabic figures (i.e., 1, 2, 3, etc.) or spelled out in alphabet letters at least 4 inches (102 mm) in height and each stroke must be 1/2-inch wide (12.7 mm) (see Figure 304.3). Easily legible numbers are essential for rapid response of emergency personnel. A high percentage of the properties without identification numbers are properties that have been recently remodeled and the numbers have not been replaced. Please install the address numbers as soon as possible for your safety. Call Elvin Erickson, Building Official, at (218) 681-2500 with any questions. Thank you for your assistance. |
