CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

The City of Thief River Falls has awarded a street and utility improvement project to Knife River Materials of Bemidji.

The underground portion of the project will be done by Hough Inc. of Detroit Lakes.

 

The work is generally described as follows:

 

This locally funded construction project contract includes replacement of deteriorated water main on Kendall Avenue, Merriam Avenue and Duluth Avenue;

miscellaneous hydrant and water valve replacements; edge mill and bituminous overlay of Municipal Lot #4 and Oakland Park Parking Lot;

bituminous paving at the City Street/Sanitation Department; edge mill and bituminous overlay of Hickory Road, Apple Tree Court, Dale Street and Edgewood Drive;

and mill and bituminous overlay of Highway 59 SE Frontage Roads.

 

The water main replacement is scheduled to begin on Monday June 27th on Kendall Avenue from Greenwood Street to Nora Street; and Merriam Avenue

from Nora Street to First Street the week of July 11th.  All underground work should be completed by the end of July with Bituminous paving in mid August.

The substantial completion date for this project is August 29th and final completion by September 16th.

The City of Thief River Falls has awarded a second improvements project this year to Knife River Materials of Bemidji, Minnesota. This project includes mill and

overlay of Brooks Avenue from 3rd Street to 6th Street, Nora Street from Pennington Avenue to Spruce Avenue, Spruce Avenue from Greenwood Street to First Street

and Greenwood Street from Spruce Avenue to Hanson Drive. All handicap pedestrian sidewalk ramps will be upgraded to the new ADA standard and all manholes & gate valves will be adjusted.

 

The contractor started work on Monday August 8th with manhole adjustments. These roads will be open for traffic during manhole adjustments and concrete pedestrian work.

You can expect some delays and minor inconvenience during this period and should find alternate routes.

Milling operations on these roads is scheduled for Thursday and Friday August 11th and 12th. The streets will be closed one at a time during this process with open intersections

approximately every 3 blocks. These roads will be closed a second time for bituminous paving. The schedule for the paving work is undetermined at this time.

 

All bituminous paving and concrete work will be completed on Spruce Avenue adjacent to Franklin Middle School by August 27th. The remainder of the project will be

substantially complete by September 30th with final completion by October 14th.
